Ceuta border spat reaches Molise's summer travellers

Italy's foreign minister has called Spain's decision to impose retaliatory checks on travellers from Italy 'incomprehensible and completely unacceptable' as people making their way between the two countries face new friction, according to The Guardian.

The dispute began after the migrant influx at Ceuta, the Spanish north African enclave, prompted recriminations and a tit-for-tat dispute between Italy and Spain. Spain had warned Italy it would impose entry checks on visitors unless Rome halts its controls by Sunday, Deutsche Welle reported.

For Molise, the fallout is a practical inconvenience for the region's modest but steady flow of travellers to Spain. The region's airports are small, and most Molisani fly from Rome or Naples, but the new checks add an unwelcome layer of bureaucracy to what should be a simple summer journey.
