EUFOR, the European Union's military force in Bosnia and Herzegovina, has confirmed that one of its helicopters crashed, killing four people, all of them Italian nationals. Al Jazeera reported that the force identified the aircraft as a CH-47 Chinook.
The report gave no location, no cause and no identities. It did not say how many people were aboard, whether the flight was routine, or precisely when the crash happened.
EUFOR Althea is the EU's military operation in Bosnia, established in 2004 when it replaced the NATO-led force that had overseen the Dayton settlement since 1995. It has been reduced over the years and now concentrates on training and support for the Bosnian armed forces, with a reserve held ready beyond the country.
