Florence femicide casts shadow over Abruzzo's mountain roads

A 45-year-old woman was killed in Florence this week in what the Guardian reported as the seventh alleged femicide in Italy since mid-August. Lorena Isceri was abducted on Thursday afternoon, allegedly by her ex-boyfriend Federico Vella, and thrown off a motorway bridge near the Tuscan capital, according to the Guardian's reporting.

The case has drawn attention across central Italy, where the network of motorway bridges and mountain roads that connect the Apennine interior to the regional capitals has become a recurring backdrop to reports of violence against women. From L'Aquila to Teramo, the same infrastructure that carries commuters and freight toward Florence and Rome also features in the grim statistics of domestic killings.

Italian authorities have not released further details about the investigation, and the Guardian noted that formal charges had not yet been confirmed at the time of reporting.
