Ferragosto weekend sets stage for Italy's heaviest traffic

The coming weekend brings some of the heaviest traffic Italy will see this summer, according to warnings from Italy's motorway operator, as reported by The Local Italy. The Ferragosto holiday, which falls on August 15, traditionally marks the peak of the Italian summer exodus, with millions of drivers heading to the coast and mountains.

The warning comes as much of Italy swelters through a record August heatwave, with The Local Italy reporting that relief is in sight in the coming days after more than two weeks of intense heat. The combination of holiday travel and high temperatures is expected to strain road networks across the country.

For Piedmont, the forecast is particularly relevant: the region's motorways, including the A4 Turin-Milan corridor and the A32 Turin-Bardonecchia route toward the Fréjus tunnel, are key arteries for holiday traffic heading to the Alps and the French Riviera.
