Fiorentina in talks with Man United over Zirkzee loan

Fiorentina are in talks with Manchester United over an initial loan move for striker Joshua Zirkzee, the BBC reported on Thursday. The deal would see the Dutch forward move to Serie A on a temporary basis, with the Italian club seeking attacking reinforcement before the transfer window closes.

Zirkzee joined Manchester United from Bologna in the summer of 2025 for a reported fee in excess of £36m, but has struggled to establish himself as a regular starter at Old Trafford. The 25-year-old's situation has attracted interest from several European clubs, with Fiorentina now emerging as the most concrete suitor.

The move would represent a homecoming of sorts for Zirkzee, who spent two seasons at Bologna between 2022 and 2024, scoring 14 Serie A goals in his final campaign. His familiarity with Italian football and the league's tactical demands makes him an attractive option for Fiorentina, who are looking to strengthen their attacking options ahead of a demanding season that includes Europa Conference League participation.

For Manchester United, the loan would provide the player with regular first-team football while the club evaluates its long-term options up front. The Premier League side have been active in the transfer market this summer, and a temporary departure for Zirkzee would free up squad space and wage budget.

The BBC report did not specify whether the deal would include an option or obligation to buy, or what financial terms are being discussed. Fiorentina have a history of successful loans from Premier League clubs, most notably Arthur Melo from Juventus and Christian Kouamé from Anderlecht, though the latter was made permanent.

Zirkzee's representatives are understood to be open to the move, with the player keen to revive his career after a difficult first season in England. The Dutch international has been capped at senior level and remains highly rated across Europe despite his limited minutes at Old Trafford.

The transfer window closes on September 1, giving both clubs just days to finalise terms. Fiorentina's sporting director has been working on multiple targets this summer, but Zirkzee is believed to be the priority should an agreement be reached.
