Italy releases €100m for Naples quake zone as Campi Flegrei strain shows

The Italian government released €100 million ($115 million) in aid to tackle damage caused by last week's earthquake in the Naples area, the civil protection minister said on Tuesday, according to The Local Italy. The quake, a magnitude 4.7 event near Pozzuoli, injured 26 people and damaged buildings in the Campi Flegrei volcanic area.

The aid package comes as new video footage, reported by Euronews, showed the aftermath in Pozzuoli — cracked facades, displaced residents and the visible toll on a densely built urban zone sitting atop one of Europe's most monitored volcanic calderas.

For the Abruzzo bureau, the announcement carries an unavoidable echo. The Campi Flegrei event is a different kind of seismic threat — volcanic rather than tectonic — but the questions it raises about building standards, state response and public trust are the same ones that have shaped L'Aquila's long reconstruction since 2009.
