CCTV Shows Moment €9m Art Stolen From Italian Museum

Italian police have released CCTV footage showing the moment art valued at more than $10m was stolen from the Magnani Rocca Foundation near Parma in March, the BBC reported. The video, made public after the works were recovered, captures the heist of three paintings by French masters Paul Cézanne, Pierre-Auguste Renoir and Henri Matisse.

The recovery, confirmed by the Guardian this week, closes a five-month investigation that began when the three canvases disappeared from the foundation, a private collection housed in a neoclassical villa in the Emilia-Romagna countryside. The artworks, together valued at more than $10m, were among the most significant pieces in the foundation's holdings.

The release of the security footage marks the final public chapter of a case that has drawn international attention to the security of Italy's smaller private museums, which often lack the sophisticated protection systems of major state institutions.
