Stolen Cézanne, Renoir and Matisse Recovered in Italy

Italian police have recovered three paintings by French masters Paul Cézanne, Pierre-Auguste Renoir and Henri Matisse, stolen from the Fondazione Magnani Rocca museum in Mamiano di Traversetolo, near Parma, in March, according to The Guardian. On Friday, police released new CCTV footage of the theft, showing two masked burglars entering through a window and grabbing the artworks. The paintings are collectively valued at more than $10 million, as reported by the New York Times.

The recovery follows a five-month investigation. Al Jazeera reports that nine Moldovans are being investigated in connection with the theft, while the New York Times says the Italian military police have made five arrests. Le Monde notes that the artworks were worth more than €10 million combined, making this one of the more significant art thefts in recent Italian history.
