Ryanair winter cuts threaten Molise's fragile air link

Fuel costs from US-Iran war drive flight reductions across Europe

Ryanair said Wednesday that it would reduce its winter schedule in Europe as the Irish no-frills airline and other carriers come up against higher fuel costs caused by the US-Iran war, according to The Local Italy.

The announcement adds fresh uncertainty to a region that has long fought for reliable air connectivity. Molise, Italy's smallest region by population, has a single commercial airport at Campobasso that has struggled to maintain year-round routes.

For a territory already shaped by emigration and geographic isolation, the loss of winter flights would deepen the sense of abandonment that residents describe in foreign coverage of Italy's depopulating interior.
