Inter and Milan have unveiled plans for the Generali Stadium, a 71,500-seat ground intended to replace the San Siro from the 2031-32 season. The Guardian reported the presentation on 29 October, noting that the venue takes its name from its sponsor, the insurer Generali. Outside the gala, Inter supporters protested the plans.

The two clubs have shared San Siro for most of a century, an arrangement rare among Europe's largest clubs, most of which own their grounds outright. The plan keeps the sharing and replaces the building. That makes the announcement a design story as much as a football one, which is presumably why the Guardian carried it on its art and design pages.

The naming is the tell. A ground called Generali rather than San Siro marks a shift from municipal landmark to sponsored real estate, and the protest outside the presentation suggests the change is not welcomed by everyone who fills the seats.
