Scylla Shipping has contracted Corvus Energy to supply Energy Storage Systems for two new river cruise vessels, Riviera Reflection and Harmonie, according to The Maritime Executive. The vessels are designed to operate on European rivers and coastal routes, with battery systems replacing or supplementing conventional fuel engines. The order reflects a widening shift in the cruise sector toward electrified propulsion as operators face pressure from EU decarbonisation rules and rising fuel costs.

The move carries direct weight for Genoa's port ecosystem. River cruise vessels typically operate seasonal circuits along the Mediterranean coast and up the Rhone and Danube corridors, with many calling at Genoa for provisioning, crew changes and turnaround operations. As the international shipping press has documented over the past year, battery-electric systems reduce both emissions and operational costs, making them attractive to operators managing tight margins on mid-sized passenger vessels. The two Scylla vessels join a growing fleet of hybrid and electric cruise ships entering service across Europe.
