Corvus Energy has been awarded a contract to deliver energy storage systems for two new river cruise vessels operated by Scylla Shipping: Riviera Reflection and Harmonie, according to the Maritime Executive. The battery systems represent a shift in propulsion technology for river and coastal cruise operators navigating Europe's waterways, where environmental pressure and regulatory limits on emissions are tightening.

The deployment of battery-powered vessels in river and coastal routes carries particular weight for Genoa and the Ligurian coast, where tourism and regional shipping depend on access to protected waters. As the Mediterranean faces mounting pressure from both cruise traffic and climate stress, battery systems offer operators a way to reduce emissions in sensitive ecosystems—the Riviera's terraced coastline and Cinque Terre draw hundreds of thousands of visitors annually, many by sea.
