Two passenger aircraft heading to Rome were among the European flights targeted by hoax bomb threats on Tuesday, according to the BBC and Deutsche Welle. The threats prompted Italy's air force to scramble and forced brief closures at Warsaw airport, though no explosives were discovered on any of the aircraft. The wave of threats also struck flights bound for Spain, Bulgaria and Israel, affecting multiple countries in a coordinated pattern that raised security alerts across European aviation.
The disruptions came as European airports remain on heightened alert following a broader series of security incidents. According to Deutsche Welle, the threats involved two planes to Warsaw, a Ryanair flight from London to Spain, the two Rome-bound aircraft, and a flight from Israel to Sofia. The BBC reported that planes in Poland, Spain, Bulgaria and Italy were all checked for explosives following the separate threats.
