Stolen Cézanne, Renoir and Matisse Paintings Recovered in Italy

Italian police have recovered three paintings by French masters Paul Cézanne, Pierre-Auguste Renoir and Henri Matisse, stolen from the Fondazione Magnani Rocca museum near Parma in March. The Guardian reported that the artworks, valued at more than $10 million combined, were found after a five-month investigation. Police released new CCTV footage on Friday showing two masked burglars entering through a window, grabbing the canvases in a nighttime heist.

The recovery marks a rare success in the world of art crime, where stolen masterpieces often vanish for years or decades. According to Al Jazeera, nine Moldovans are being investigated in connection with the theft, while the New York Times said five people have been arrested. The Italian military police, known as the Carabinieri, led the operation, which prosecutors detailed in a statement on Friday.
