Travellers in Italy face a return to transport disruption from early September, as the country's summer strike ban comes to an end, according to The Local Italy. The report said air and rail strikes are set to restart across the country, a development that will directly affect Liguria's main gateways — Genoa's Cristoforo Colombo airport and the rail lines that link the region to Milan, Turin and the French Riviera.
For Liguria, the timing is awkward. September is a critical month for the region's tourism economy, as the summer crowds thin but cruise calls and conference traffic remain strong. Strikes on the Genoa–Milan line, a key artery for both commuters and visitors, would disrupt the flow of passengers and freight that the port depends on.
The Local Italy noted that the ban, imposed for the summer period, had provided a temporary respite for travellers. Its expiry means unions and transport operators can again call walkouts, with the potential for cascading cancellations across the network.
