United Airlines has announced three new US-Italy routes for 2027, including a direct service from Washington DC to Milan, according to The Local Italy. The major American carrier will also add two new routes from the New York area to Sardinia and Sicily, along with the return of a seasonal connection to Puglia.

The Washington-Milan route is particularly significant for Lombardy, adding a second US gateway to the region's primary airport. Milan's Malpensa airport serves as a key hub for northern Italy's business community, and the new connection strengthens its links to the US capital's political and corporate networks.

The expansion reflects sustained demand for transatlantic travel to Italy, with United responding to growing interest in both business and leisure destinations across the country. The new routes represent a vote of confidence in Italy's tourism sector, which has been working to extend its season beyond the traditional summer peak.
